A Sneak Peek Into IMPA’s Sustainability Work

If you are a regular reader of the IMPA members’ newsletter or our great Marine Trader Journal, then you will have already seen how hard our team has been working across the board on all our sustainability initiatives. At this point, we truly believe this will be yet another year of great launches, and we thought it would make sense to give you a quick snapshot not only into what our recent work has been focusing on, but also into some of the dates you should put in your diary this year and why you should be just as excited as we are.

OK… now on to the sneak peeks.

📌 Coming September 2021

The IMPA Supplier Evaluation Programme for Sustainable Practice is coming along nicely

We have now done the research, we worked with our partners at Green Business Bureau to develop the platform, and now we are getting ready to beta-test the programme. All things being equal, come September, maritime suppliers in the IMPA network will have a way to verifiably demonstrate their environmental sustainability, while purchasers will be able to identify sustainability frontrunners by using the new and improved IMPA Members’ Directory. We hope you are as excited as we are!

📌 Coming ~ Q4 2021

The world’s first and only responsible supply chain management system for the global shipping industry is rapidly moving to version 2.0

While we cannot reveal more than this for the time being, we can say that our 2013 programme is not only getting a proper content update to continue maintaining its state-of-the-art status (as we speak!), but will also be migrating to a new platform that will streamline the work of all our IMPA ACT members. And with mandatory human rights and environmental due diligence becoming hard law in the EU soon, you should keep an eye on this space for more updates and ways to get involved.

🎯 Not a date, but… IMPA SAVE has now moved past 11% of the global fleet, and our work is not stopping here.

The work with IMPA SAVE continues and we have now passed the 11% mark – yes, you read that right – 28 companies representing more than 11% of the global fleet are committed to drastically reduce plastic drinking water bottles before 2025. And with latest research showing that the environmental impact of bottled water can be up to 3,500 times greater than tap water, there is no reason you should not pledge to do the same. The work at SAVE, however, does not stop here, and our plans for setting more milestones are looming near – keep an eye on this space!
