IMPA is extremely proud to announce that, in the campaign to find the greenest companies, the Association was chosen from a pool of over 500 environmental frontrunners as a leader in developing environmental best practice.
The team has just returned from the Houses of Parliament where IMPA, the leading Association for maritime procurement professionals, won the International Green Apple Silver Award for Environmental Best Practice 2019; this was exclusively in recognition of the work carried out with IMPA ACT, the world-first responsible supply chain management initiative for the global shipping industry. IMPA competed against more than 500 other nominations in the International Green Apple Awards 2019, and it was its well-rounded IMPA ACT Supplier Code of Conduct aligned with UN principles for best practice, its toolbox that streamlines the CSR work of global shipping departments and its continuous efforts to raise awareness and instil some degree of CSR uniformity in the shipping industry that brought the Association this award.
IMPA has also been offered the tremendous opportunity of becoming a Green World Ambassador for demonstrating its commitment to the environment by sharing expertise with shipping companies all around the world. Its award-winning initiative will also be highlighted in The Green Book, the world’s only annual work of reference on environmental best practice.
Having met other sustainability frontrunners at the presentation ceremony that was held in the Houses of Parliament in London on 25 November 2019, Jasmine Schestak, IMPA Head of Projects, said:
“We started our efforts to revamp IMPA ACT just before the initiative’s five-year anniversary, and a lot of work has gone in the past year into streamlining the responsible supply chain management process, updating existing documentation, coming up with new tools and guides, and creating new exposure opportunities for our members. It really means a lot for our team to see our efforts and an initiative that is so close to IMPA’s ethos receive such an important recognition on the initiative’s six-year anniversary.”
About the Green Apple Environment Awards
The Green Apple Environment Awards were established in 1994 as an annual campaign to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world. The Green Apple Awards scheme was one of the first to be accredited by the RSA as an official feeder scheme into the European Business Awards for the Environment, and is still one of only a handful of accredited campaigns. The aims of the Awards are:
- To improve environmental performance;
- To encourage the efficient use of resources;
- To enhance the competitiveness of organisations;
- To support the wider goals of sustainable development, including social benefits, through community and staff involvement;
- To help winners benefit from their environmental endeavours.
